Our responsibility as archaeologists to educate the public about the past and how to protect it is of utmost importance. From harmful pseudoarchaeology to vandalism at archaeological sites, a misinformed public directly threatens cultural resources, descendant communities, and scientific understanding of humanity.
Archaeologists are trained in how to interpret the past, but less often are we trained about how to communicate what we know to the public. In this full-day workshop, Dr. Melissa Booth will lead us through presentations and group work aimed to help Utah archaeologists understand key information about our audiences and our work so that we can get right to the heart of why archaeology matters.
