The Cold War Comes to Cedar! Guided Walking Tours with BLM Archaeologist

Join Cedar City Field Office archaeologist Joey LaValley for a guided walking tour through the Three Peaks Recreation Area to explore how the Bureau of Land Management’s “multiple use” mission has shaped this landscape over the last century. During this two-hour, 2.5-mile journey, you will hike through juniper and sage to uncover remnants of four archaeological sites used for Cold War military testing between 1968 and 1970. From its history of iron mining and municipal water sourcing to its evolution into a world-class outdoor playground, this tour offers a unique look at how public lands successfully balance grazing, mining, defense, and recreation.
