From Shepherd to Subdivision

May 4 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

A tour of two blocks of Sherman Avenue, exploring its history from grazing field for sheep, to a suburb of the growing city.

Southeast of what is now the intersection of 1300 South and 1300 East, shepherds once grazed and watered their flocks. A few 19th century adobe homes gave way to brick and frame houses as the city grew in the early 20th century. This transition can be demonstrated through early maps, and by exploring two blocks now filled with early 20th century homes.
