Chinese Railroad Worker Archaeology in Utah

Join us at the 2023 Winter Steam Fest at Golden Spike National Historical Park!  At 1:30p Dr. Chris Merritt has a special presentation about the history and lives of the unsung heroes who built the Transcontinental Railroad more than 150 years ago.

During the excavation of the ghosttown of Terrace, archaeologists encountered hundreds of artifacts from traditional Chinese medicine jars to ancient coins. Many of these have never been seen before, and this may be your last chance before they find a home in the soon-to-be-built Museum of Utah. In this captivating presentation, renowned expert Dr. Merritt will share his findings and shed light on the lives of people who played a crucial role in shaping Utah’s history.
