A Snapshot of Current Archeological Research at Glen Canyon

October 26, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area has been home to various human groups for thousands of years, resulting in a long and rich culture history, which has left a complex and diverse archeological record. The recreation area, part of the National Park system, spans the Arizona Utah border, covers 1.25 million acres of land, and includes hundreds of miles of the Colorado River and tributary systems. Park lead archeologist Amy Schott will discuss the archeological record of Glen Canyon, as well as current projects and challenges. Like any National Park, Glen Canyon protects vast resources, which provides unparalleled opportunities for preservation and research; yet increasing visitation levels, changes to visitor demographics, climate change, lowering lake reservoir levels and geomorphic changes all present ongoing challenges to managing archeological landscapes.
