Wasatch Academy History

Founded by Presbyterian Reverend Duncan James McMillan in 1875, Wasatch Academy operated out of Liberal Hall, a building secured with funds from the Women's Missionary Society of the First Presbyterian Church of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This served as the school's primary building until 1891 when a new two-story brick structure was erected (pictured above), marking a significant expansion. While the 1891 structure no longer remains, Liberal Hall still stands on nearby Main Street.

Over the decades, Wasatch Academy continued to grow and evolve into a non-sectarian institution, adding more buildings to accommodate its evolving needs. Each building reflects the architectural styles prevalent during its construction period, contributing to the campus's diverse architectural heritage. Numerous historic homes also belong to Wasatch Academy and are used as faculty housing by the school.

Today, Wasatch Academy is an independent boarding school that blends its historic structures with modern facilities. The campus showcases the school's commitment to preserving its past while providing a contemporary learning environment for its students.
