Every year in Utah, organizations around the state host events to honor Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month. In the run-up to this year’s celebration in May, the Utah SHPO is highlighting great partners and successful events. Here we speak to Liz Joerger of Preservation Utah about one of their events from May 2024.
Community Stewardship Awards by Preservation Utah
Tell us about your event.
This was Preservation Utah’s annual awards ceremony, proudly held in Memorial House in Memory Grove Park in Salt Lake City.
What did you love about this event?
We love how it brings the preservation community together! People from all around the state gather to celebrate this shared passion and their successes. The pride and sense of achievement is palpable and uplifting!
Were there any challenges you ran into?
Getting people to submit nominations for preservation projects is often difficult! We designed a plan to overcome this obstacle by posting about it on our social media, highlighting it in our newsletter, and reaching out to specific people and inviting them to submit nominations. We were able to get plenty of great nominations and celebrate preservation work in our state!
