Overview:
Fort Deseret is the only remaining example of an adobe fort, which were once common in Utah. Constructed in 1865 out of mud and straw, it served as an important outpost for the Mormon settlers in the area. The walls were once 10 feet high,  but weather and time have continually reduced them. Over the years the community has rebuilt them several times. Currently the walls are in very poor shape; our goal is to restore a portion of them to their former glory, or at least help to improve stabilize them. We need your help to do it!
  • Come prepared to get dirty
  • We will be employing 19th century technology, mixing mud, straw, water and slapping it on the fort!
  • We will be installing beams to support the wall
  • We will be placing new gun ports
Come learn about this piece of Utah history and take an active role in helping to restore and protect it.
After we have worked up an appetite, there will be a barbecue hosted by the town of Deseret midday on Saturday at the fort for only $7!
On the evening of Friday, May 22nd, there will be an introductory presentation on the history of the fort and its significance at 6:30pm
