Historic Latinx Resources in Utah Multiple Property Submission Amendment

The intent of the amended Historic Latinx Resources in Utah MPDF is to serve as the basis for future scholarship and to facilitate future historic preservation efforts, such as the nomination of properties to the NRHP. This MPDF is a study of Latinx history in Utah between 1943 and 1978 and supplements a related context spanning from 1776 to 1942. Together, the contexts provide a historic overview of events and patterns in that history throughout the state, with a particular emphasis on the relationship of those events to the physical environment (e.g., where Latinx communities were located, where important social and religious organizations met, where individuals lived and worked). The contexts are not comprehensive histories but instead seek to chart the broad patterns of history in relation to Utah’s Latinx population. Both MPDFs conclude with a discussion of property types associated with these periods and how to evaluate them for the NRHP.
