We understand that the costs associated with archaeological work can often be prohibitive for ordinary Utahns. That's why our program is here to bridge the gap and provide financial assistance through grant matching, helping you unravel the mysteries of your property without breaking the bank.

  • Detailed project description and realistic timetable.
  • Written responses to grant evaluation criteria.
  • Realistic budget with breakdown or written estimates.
  • Documentation of available funds for matching.
  • Additional items may be required (e.g., support letters, resumes, maps, photographs).

WHAT IS GRANT MATCHING?

Grant matching refers to the requirement for grant recipients to contribute a portion of their own funds towards a project or program for which they are seeking grant funding. Matching funds demonstrates the commitment and investment of the recipient towards the project's success.

  • Matching funds are required from the applicant to complete the project in this grant program. It is allowable to consult with the Utah SHPO before submitting the application to determine what qualifies as matching funds

  • A 50/50 match is required between grant funds and funds provided by the landowner/archaeological consultant.

  • Grant matching funds may be in the form of cash. These cash funds can come from the landowner or organization.

  • Matching funds can also come from other grant awards, such as the Eccles Foundation Award. However, these matching funds from other awards cannot be used to fund ineligible program activities.

  • In-kind contributions are acceptable as matching funds. Examples of in-kind contributions include, but are not limited to:

    • Providing camping accommodations for archaeologists on private land.
    • Supplying materials for creating an interpretive sign or kiosk.
    • Donated supplies for creating an interpretive sign or kiosk.

  • Archaeological consultants are also able to contribute matching funds. Their contributions can include, but are not limited to:

    • Offering discounted rates for archaeological services.
    • Providing additional services to the project, as long as they are not ineligible program activities (as defined in 2b).

  • The percentage of required match may be adjusted by the Utah SHPO based on the availability of funds and the viability of the project.
