SHPO Internships and Volunteers

Are you ready to build your career in archaeology or historic preservation? Or maybe you have some free time and you want to learn from and work with the experts. The Utah SHPO welcomes people from all educational backgrounds and stages of life who want to work with us. Read one to discover which kind of opportunity is right for you.

Internships

Interns often receive school credit for their hours spent working at the SHPO, and our summer program may count as an archaeological field school. Interns offer their time by entering into a contract with SHPO, wherein specific goals and duties may be developed. Typical internships last 13 weeks, or the length of the school semester, and the same person may choose to do up to two internships a year.

Volunteer

A volunteer is someone who volunteers their time for SHPO and does not receive monetary compensation in return. Volunteers may offer their help for only a few hours on one day, or may return again and again to work on the same task, or different tasks. Volunteers have the most flexibility in their schedule and their tasks of any of these three categories.
