ELIAS & LUCY VAN FLEET HOUSE, FARMINGTON, DAVIS COUNTY

The Elias and Lucy Van Fleet House in Farmington, Davis County, Utah, was originally constructed ca. 1870. It is locally significant under Criterion C in the area of Architecture as a good representation of the vernacular Classical style and stone masonry construction known as a hallmark of Farmington’s settlement era. The house is a strong and relatively rare extant representation of pioneer housing during the period in which the community of Farmington was settled. Elias Van Fleet, who owned the property during the Settlement Era, was among the early settlers in the community and a person of leadership roles within the religious fabric of the town.  The Van Fleet House meets the requirements for and is being nominated under the Settlement Era Buildings of Farmington, 1847 to 1896 MPS. The period of significance is ca. 1870 to ca. 1940s, which reflects the construction date of the dwelling and the estimated construction date of the most recent (western) addition.
